12-month payment plans available for 2020 property taxes

On April 16, Gov. Jay Inslee signed House Bill 1332, which provides property tax relief to businesses ahead of the April 30 deadline. The bill requires counties to offer payment plans to businesses for 2020 tax obligations. Counties will be prohibited from charging penalties or interest and the 12-month payment plans will begin April 2021. A county can determine not to allow for the payment plan if it causes a cash flow problem as it relates to bonds.

Businesses are only eligible for relief if the owner or person responsible for payment of the tax on real property demonstrates a loss of at least 25% of its revenue for the calendar year 2020 compared to 2019.

The application must be filled out and returned to the county treasurer by April 30, 2021. It is available to download here. If Washington Hospitality Association members have additional questions, they can visit the Department of Revenue website or reach out to their territory manager for help with the application.
