[Official guidance] Phase 1, 2, and 3 weddings and funerals
Special note: On July 23, 2020, Gov. Jay Inslee announced receptions cannot be held for weddings and funerals in any phase of the Safe Start Plan starting Aug. 6, 2020. No food can be catered or provided for a wedding or funeral reception. The information below is for archive purposes.
On June 19 the Governor’s Office released official requirements for non-religious weddings and funerals in Phases 1,2 and 3 of the Washington Safe Start Plan.
For the hospitality industry, the new guidance states that if food is served at a reception for a wedding, funeral or memorial service, the venue must comply with the guidance for dine-in restaurants and taverns and must follow the county’s current phase guidance. An event will also need to comply with religious and faith-based organization guidelines in addition to restaurant dine-in restaurants guidelines.
Per an update on June 22, wedding services “do not include engagement parties, bridal/groom/couples’ showers, bachelorette/bachelor parties or rehearsal dinners. Funeral and memorial services are defined as the ceremony honoring a deceased person, including a wake, burial, cremation, or memorial service, located indoors or outdoors.”
