Unemployment Insurance tax rate increases

< All Topics

Unemployment Insurance tax rates for 2021 will be announced in late November and businesses can expect a significant increase unless there is action by the Governor’s office and state legislature. Despite critical legislation passed by the Washington Hospitality Association in the final days of the legislative session committing $25 million to pay off coronavirus-related benefit charges, the unemployment insurance trust fund experienced impacts in the billions.

To advise on unemployment insurance policy, the Employment Security Department has formed the Unemployment Insurance Advisory Committee (UIAC), which is made up of business and labor representatives. The UIAC appointed the Washington Hospitality Association to represent member interests in advocating for reasonable solutions.

The Washington Hospitality Association will keep you informed on any new developments as well as our advocacy efforts on this topic.
